Orsayor: Electa, Do Book Groupies exist in the Literary World?
Electa: Yes Orsayor, they do exist! They most certainly do. I say that with absolute, 100% certainty. I have attended a host of literary events such as conferences, author signings, festivals, workshops, etc. over the years. After awhile I started to notice a peculiar pattern no matter what city or state I happened to be in. Even though avid readers, mostly female, poured much love my way (I love you back), I noticed the male authors received an extra, extra dose(smile). Maybe because there weren’t as many male authors? Okay, we’ll run with that for now. It sounds good.
Being the ever observant and people watcher that I am, I noticed if I attended a large literary event (again, didn’t matter what city or state), I would see some of the same female readers hanging out with the same male authors. I won’t call any names (hehehe). These female readers bought their books, shamelessly flirted with them, took photos with them, ate meals with them, shamelessly flirted with them, hung onto their every word at panel discussions, shamelessly flirted with them and treated them like kings.
Hmmm. Then it hit me…a concept I had never thought of. How naïve of me. I started thinking about groupies who follow rock bands, rappers, professional athletics, actors, celebrities and entertainers. Why wouldn't or couldn’t they exist in the literary arena as well?
Throw a few over the top “what if questions” into the mix of book groupies and Diary of a Stalker was born followed by The Stalker Chronicles.
